Denver Botanic Garden Ticket Booth

A team of CU Boulder Environmental Design students designed and built a pair of luminous, mobile ticket centers for the Denver Botanic Gardens as part of their junior-year Design + Build “Praxis” course. Created to serve at special events, these innovative structures won the 2018 Mayor’s Design Award and the international 2018 Architecture MasterPrize in the small and miscellaneous architecture categories. Designed to be welcoming, adaptable, and visually striking, the ticket centers feature illuminated acrylic facades, cedar fins treated with Shou Sugi Ban, and retractable steel roofing. Built on custom flatbed trailers, the interiors include five efficient ticket windows, custom birch furniture, digitally fabricated MDF slats resembling leaves, and sustainable materials such as cork flooring and recycled paperboard for sound absorption.
